Bath & West Community Energy

Generating local clean energy, community owned for the common good.

Total raised

£1.2 million

Bath & West Community Energy (BWCE) is a long-established and highly experienced community energy group. Its mission is to tackle climate change by putting people at the heart of the net zero energy transition, placing ownership and control of clean energy generation in BWCE’s local communities and keeping the benefits in the area. So far they have built 14.49MW of renewable energy projects - equivalent to the needs of 5,000 homes. Their community ownership model ensures the benefits of that clean energy stay local.

This new bond investment will help fund the construction of their 2025 rooftop solar pipeline, plus working capital to support their operation. The investment closed on 4 March 2025, having raised the full £1.2 million target in little over a month.

As BWCE enters our 15th year the scale of the climate challenge can seem bigger than ever - but so are the opportunities.

We believe that a not-for-profit community business like BWCE - accountable to local people and generating direct benefit to our local communities rather than distant corporates - can help increase trust and participation in the transition to net zero.

We are excited to be launching our first bond investment through Abundance to help us to build on our track record, bringing more solar rooftops to schools and community buildings in Bath and the surrounding area, and helping fund other exciting and innovative projects in the pipeline.
